Full service prices vary depending on your car's make, model and engine size, and quite a lot on which garage you choose. That's exactly why comparing matters rather than booking the first quote you see. Here's what full service prices look like across garages listed on our comparison site:
Min | Max | Range |
|---|---|---|
£81.31 | £557.94 | £476.63 |

Curious what drives the difference? Our guide to how much a car service costs breaks down what pushes prices up or down, and why the cheapest quote on the page isn't always the one worth booking.
And, if you're not sure what a service actually involves in the first place, what a car service covers is a good place to start.
A full service is a more thorough version of an interim service, and it's the one most manufacturers recommend once a year or every 12,000 miles, whichever comes first.
Our full service checklist includes a 40-point check. Here’s a brief overview of what’s involved:
● Engine oil and filter changed
● Coolant, brake fluid and power steering fluid checked and topped up
● Auxiliary drive belt checked and adjusted where needed
● Pollen filter checked and replaced if worn
● Lights, wipers and washers checked
● Tyre condition, tread and pressure checked
● Brakes, steering and suspension inspected
● Exhaust system checked for damage and security
● Reset vehicle service light where applicable
● Stamp printout of BookMyGarage service schedule*
And you can see the full checklist (and compare it to what's included in an interim or major service) below:

Please note that our industry-standard schedule is not a manufacturer service. If you’re looking to keep a manufacturer’s warranty intact, you may need to book directly with a franchised dealership.
*A stamped version of our service schedule counts towards a full service history for your vehicle, even if your chosen garage doesn't stamp the service book. If you would like them to fill this out as well, you may need to ask them to do so when you collect your vehicle.
"Full service" gets used differently by different garages, which is part of why it causes so much confusion.
We keep it simple and consistent: an interim service covers the essentials every six months or 6,000 miles, a full service is the more comprehensive annual check on this page, and a major service goes further still every two years or 24,000 miles.
Some garages use "full service" and "major service" to mean the same thing, which makes it even harder to compare prices between two garages directly. We cut through this confusion by displaying ‘like-for-like’ prices to allow true comparison.
| Interim Service | Full Service | Major Service |
When | Every 6 months / 6,000 miles | Every 12 months / 12,000 miles | Every 24 months / 24,000 miles |
What it covers | The essentials: oil and filter change, fluid top-ups, brake and tyre checks | Everything in an interim service, plus a full inspection of the engine, steering and suspension | Everything in a full service, plus items only due every two years, such as brake fluid and cabin filter replacement |
Best for | Higher-mileage drivers, or topping up between full services | Most drivers, once a year | Cars due their two-year check, or that haven't been serviced in a while |
You don't need to wait for something to go wrong before booking a full service, since it's routine maintenance rather than a repair. That said, a few signs are worth paying attention to:
● It's been close to a year, or 12,000 miles, since your last full service
● Your dashboard has shown a service reminder or your service light has come on
If you’ve noticed a problem with your car, but it's genuinely too soon for a full service, we recommend either booking a diagnostic check (if your engine management light has come on) or a general inspection if you’re not sure what’s causing the problem. This is the quicker way to find out what’s wrong with your car rather than wasting money on something it doesn’t actually need.
And, ff your MOT is due around the same time, it's usually worth doing both together. It can work out cheaper than booking them separately, and it means one trip to the garage instead of two. You can compare MOT and Service deals together, and our guide on whether you should book your MOT and service together walks through when it's worth it and when it isn't.
