"I normally use a different garage but for various reasons couldn’t get there so thought I’d give Birkdale Motorist Garage a try as they offer free pick up and delivery. They were courteous and efficient and delivered my car back the same day with all the service details etc. And they were more competitively priced than my usual garage so they’ve definitely got a new regular customer!"

Car brakes on your car use fluid pressure to work. When a car’s brake pedal is pushed, a plunger in the brake’s master cylinder pressurises the brake fluid that resides in the hoses and pipes to make the other components of the braking system move.
This varies from car to car, but most manufacturers suggest that the fluid is replaced at least every couple of years. Although the fluid is in a sealed system, moisture can still find its way in. It corrodes components over time and decreases the temperature at which the fluid is supposed to boil. Furthermore, as the internal components of the braking system wear out, debris contaminates the fluid, jamming everything up. All of this impacts on how well the brakes function, particularly in constant stop-start traffic with heavy braking.
Driving in the North West
The North West region includes the major cities of Manchester, Liverpool, Blackpool and Carlisle, as well large areas of unspoilt countryside in the UK. A land of superlatives, the Lake District boasts both the highest mountain (Scafell Pike) and the largest lake in England (Lake Windermere); Lakeland Fells in Cumbria is wettest place in England, and Cross Fell in the Pennines the coldest. As such, drivers in the North West need to be prepared for all manner of driving conditions and issues, particularly during the winter months.
