"Very happy with service and MOT extremely good price for both. Both were completed before 1pm. Only negative comments I have was I was emailed to say garage would contact me after booking they didn't i had to call them to confirm timings to drop off I also selected free pick up and collection service when booking through the website. however this wasn't available according to the garage"
"Great service and price"
"Good guys- know what they’re going"
"Helpful staff, all good"
"Honest and trustworthy staff, very helpful pick up/drop off."
"Best experience with a garage that I've had - Tim met me at my door when I pulled up so I didn't even have to get out in the rain. Drove myself to work and then he brought my car back to do my service. He was very easy to talk to. He brought my car back before the end of my work day with a mobile card machine, so it was all extremely convenient. Car is running better now and the price was spot on! Will definitely be using them again!"
"Helpful staff. Job done on time. All done to good level satisfaction."
Always good to deal with.
"Always pleasant and helpful, Did their best to avoid an extra charge. Good collection/delivery arrangements. Useful advice and follow up. No plans to change!"
"The original date/time I booked online was not available. An alternative was given which suited me. The staff were welcoming and efficient. The waiting area was very clean and comfortable. The service itself was very thorough and there were no extra costs over and above the quoted price. The car was returned to me in a very clean condition."
"Very pleased with the service, quick and supplied with a courtesy car as well as kept up to date with how it was going and was asked first about additional work that needed doing and waited until I was happy for it to be done."
"Brilliant from start to finish finally found a garage I will be using all the tim"
The brakes on your car utilise fluid pressure.
When the brake pedal is depressed, it activates a plunger in the master cylinder,
which pressurises the brake fluid in the pipes and hoses causing the brake components to move.
Brake repairs are one of the most common reasons to visit a garage; all cars need their brake discs and pads replaced at regular intervals. Some of the warning signs for brake failure are squealing or grinding noises when depressing the brakes, or the brake feeling 'spongy' when the pedals is pressed. And of course if you need to brake increasingly hard to effectively slow or stop your car, then you could well be looking at brake replacement.
There are two main types of brake systems: disc brakes and drum brakes.
Disc brake systems are comprised of two pads per wheel, which clamp down on the brake disc when the brake pedal is depressed. When the fluid becomes pressurised, it sends a plunger in the calliper forward, forcing the brake pads on either side of the brake disc to squeeze it, which results in the slowing and stopping of the car.
Drum brakes operate in the same way as disc brakes, but with a different design. They both use friction to slow and stop the car, but drum brakes use shoes, instead of pads. The shoes are inside the steel brake drum itself, which spins with the wheel. When brake pressure is applied, a component called the wheel cylinder expands, forcing the brake shoes apart and towards the inside edge of the drum. Drum brakes are usually found on older vehicles, or just on the rear brake system.
What do you need from your garage?
This might sound like a question with an obvious answer: you need a garage that can service or repair your car quickly and at a good price. But think again and you may realise there are other factors that affect your choice of garage in York. If you need to bring your son or daughter with you when you take your car in, are there toys in the waiting room? If you’re dropping the car off between school and work, can you pick up a cup of coffee while you’re there? Might the garage even collect your car and drop it back at your house after the work is done? You can find answers to all these questions on BookMyGarage.
