As of July 2024, there are 1,190,000 fully electric cars on UK roads. 315,000 of these battery-electric vehicles were registered in 2023, 18% growth vs the number of registrations in 2022.
According to heycar, around 17.8% of all cars registered in the UK in 2023 were electric.
As more manufacturers release electric cars and we draw closer to the 2035 ban on new petrol and diesel sales, that figure is only going to rise.

In July 2024, 18.5% of all new car registrations were EVs – with 27,335 new electric cars registered.
In June, 14.4% of new registrations were electric, meaning a 4.1% growth month on month.
In July 2023, the electric registration percentage stood at 13.6%.

According to CitaEV, it is anticipated that EVs will account for a fifth of the all cars on UK roads by 2030 – approximately 6.5 million vehicles.
However, the growth of electric vehicles on UK roads is dependent on a variety of factors. Prices would have to fall, and infrastructure would have to improve to become more attractive to UK buyers.
