Tesla is the biggest electric car company in the world. Here is everything you need to know about Tesla.
Tesla was founded in 2003 in San Carlos, California by engineers Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning.
Although Elon Musk is the current CEO, he didn’t join the company until 2004, when he became the chairman of the Board of Directors – after investing $30 million.

There are four Tesla Models available to buy new and used in the UK.
First introduced in the UK in 2019, the Model 3 is available in three different specs, Performance, Long Range AWD, and Rear-Wheel Drive. The minimum range the Model 3 travels is 305 miles, meaning you could drive from London to Manchester on a single charge.
The Model 3 is kitted out with a 15inch Touchscreen display and an all-glass roof. Prices start from £42,990, making it the most affordable Tesla model.
The Model Y comes in the same specifications as the 3, and on the surface looks incredibly similar. The key difference is the space – the Model Y has a much larger boot space with easy access, as well as more passenger space, meaning the Model Y makes for a much better family car.
Prices for the Model Y start at £44,990, putting it slightly more expensive than the Model 3. Like the Model 3, you can configure the car to your liking, or you can browse Tesla’s inventory.
The Model S Plaid has a top speed of 200mph and can complete 0-60 in an eyewatering 1.99 seconds – making it the fastest Tesla available. Both variations of the Model S are only available as left-hand drive and has up to 394 miles of range.
Prices for the Model S start at £95,630 – more than double the price of the Model 3 – and the Plaid version will set you back over £100,000 at a minimum. It is also worth noting that the Model S is only available to order through the inventory. You can’t configure your S like you can do a Model 3, which means you will not be able to choose things such as colours, wheels, and interiors: they will come as a standard.
Like the S, the X is available in Plaid and as standard, with the Plaid version boasting a higher speed but a slightly lower range.
The cheapest Model X costs £104,780 brand new from the inventory – like the S, you are unable to configure your own car. The key difference between the S and the X is the number of seats – the X seats up to seven including the driver and include Falcon Wing Rear Doors to allow for easier loading. It also comes with a trailer hitch as standard.
As a company, Tesla has a net worth 804.99 billion US Dollars at the time of writing. Elon Musk owns 20.6% of the shares and the company has 127,855 employees.
In 2021, Tesla’s market capitalisation reached $1 trillion, making it the sixth company to do so in US history.
On April 5th, 2023, Tesla published their ‘Master Plan Part 3’, which is the next part in their efforts toward ‘sustainable global energy economy through end use electrification and sustainable electricity generation and storage’.
The paper outlines their plans to eliminate fossil fuels and meeting the global electrification demand. The paper is 41 pages long and states the investments, land areas, and material required, and is concluded with the belief that a ‘fully electrified and sustainable economy is within reach through the actions of this paper’.
