Good value and reliable
"Timely service with good value repairs. Happy with work completed. Staff were very helpful and friendly."
"First time using Colins MOT and Service Centre and would definitely use them again. Very reasonably price and experienced mechanics."
Really great service
"Staff were very friendly. They also had me fitted in the next day after phoning & was done very fast too"
"Very happy with the service and my car was completed a bit earlier than I expected. No complaints whatsoever and the staff were very friendly."
Great customer service
"I put my car into John Mcinnes for an MOT. Unfortunately an issue with my bonnet lock reared it’s head and the MOT couldn’t be completed. After attempting to get in myself, I returned it to the garage where they got in and carried out the MOT, without charging for the extra time spent trying to get around this particular issue. I was kept well informed of the situation and the staff were more than helpful. Would highly recommend."
"Very good garage use all the time."
"Was great. Picked up and dropped off my car at the office."
Helpful local garage
"Honest and upfront garage. Kept me informed and phoned/text throughout the day. In no way did I feel pressured to get additional work to fix advisories. I did choose to get this done though because it was a fair price. Would recommend."
"Very happy with the service"
"Booking was easy online. Reminder email came through. Asked for the car back before 1pm and I received a text at 1100 so say work was complete. Very efficient"
A car radiator disperses heat away from the main engine block. A car engine works by burning fuel (whether petrol or diesel), and this generates a considerable amount of heat. In addition, a car engine has many moving parts; this movement creates friction, which in turn adds to the heat.
Because a car engine must remain not too hot in order to avoid overheating and seizure, when it reaches a certain temperature the thermostat opens to allow the flow of coolant and water around the engine and back to the radiator, where it loses heat to the cooler surrounding air. The front grill of the car allows outside air to blow over the radiator. If the radiator gets too hot, for example on a very hot day, or when the car is stationary, a fan behind the radiator starts, helping to blow air over it.
The most common reason for needing a car radiator repair is a leak. There are many seals, gaskets and hoses in the cooling system that can deteriorate or get a hole in them. Furthermore, every radiator needs to be properly maintained and the coolant must be kept topped up. Your garage should provide coolant changes at the same time as your annual service.
It’s also a good idea to check your car’s coolant level regularly. If it seems to be dropping a lot, then you may have a leak in the cooling system.
How to be a better driver
Whether you’re driving in Aberdeen or further afield, think about road user etiquette. Showing respect for other road users makes driving more pleasant for you and safer for everyone. For example, if you have to make a last minute change of lane, make your request to change clear to the driver who will need to let you in - and signal your thanks if they do. Be ready to abandon the change of lane if they won’t play ball - your safety (and that of other drivers and pedestrians) is more important than getting to your destination in the shortest time possible. When the position is reversed and a driver asks your permission to change lanes, allow them to as long as it is safe. If you get frustrated, avoid using your horn - it won’t improve matters and might make them considerably worse.
