"I took my car to Halls for a service at 8AM and it was ready before lunch. Good service from all the staff. Will use this garage again"
Not keept informed
"Actual service was top quality. Unfortunately I was told Imperial Cars will notify me in due course when MOT+Full service is ready which did not happen. I dropped my car at Chertsey Service at 8.30 am and only after sending them a quick email at 4.30 pm did I recieve a one liner telling me to come and pick it up. I feel this can definetly improve!"
"Not being mechanically minded I can only assume that the work carried out was to a good quality hence the 3 star average rating. I can say that there was good communication from the garage and sound advice given in a timely manner with no pressure selling so all good as far as I'm concerned. My local garage closed and I used these guys for the first time and will be using them again."
Brilliant helpful staff
"Love your garage and staff"
"MOT would recommend"
"Collected car and delivered it back. Collected at 0815 and rang to say work completed and they were bringing it back at 1215 which was pretty good. All work completed as requested."
"Reliable and efficient local garage. I've been a regular customer and never been disappointed."
"To the point."
"Excellent service by the team at Secret Service Mazda!"
Well priced service & MOT
"Very happy with the service.... I just miss having my car washed as part of the service. It’s a small thing but means a lot. Perhaps offer this as a extra ? Overall happy"
Easy to deal with.
"Easy to book in, the car was ready on time and at price agreed."
"I called up the night before asking what time they wanted my car. The guy was really friendly and chatty, making me feel at ease as this was the first time I was trying a new garage. I dropped the car off and even though there was a mistake with the computer system and the poor guys were rushed off their feet, they were really thorough, giving sound advice and explanations. I felt they did a great job and put my worries to rest. They were honest with the work that would need doing and booked me in for a week later to complete the necessary work. I was really satisfied with what they had done and would recommend them to others."
Power Assisted Steering, or ‘PAS' as it is also known, is a mechanism that helps you to steer your car. In most vehicles, the PAS relies on a hydraulic system to aid turning the vehicle's wheels. If you have ever driven a car with no Power Steering you will have most certainly noticed the difference between having PAS and not. Power Steering used to be a luxury in certain vehicles, but nowadays it is almost standard in every type of vehicle.
In the early days of the automotive industry, power-assisted steering was a luxury and was only available in high-end vehicles. Most new cars now have it as standard. That’s because they’ve become heavier, with wider tyres and front wheel drive, and would be extremely difficult to drive without PAS. This makes a car not only more pleasant to drive, but safer to drive too.
There are two types of hydraulic power-assisted steering: rack & pinion and the recirculating ball. Rack & pinion is the most common. The recirculating ball is far less common and only really exists in vans and trucks. Both have high-pressure hoses that connect the steering rack to the two sides of the centre seal. One hose sends hydraulic fluid from the power-steering pump to the steering mechanism, while the other directs fluid back to the pump. When turned left or right, the steering wheel’s steering mechanism allows the hydraulic fluid to pass to respective side of the steering rack, pushing the seal and rack in the necessary direction.
Electric power-assisted steering is fully electric. The wheels of the car receive direct assistance from an electric motor which is mounted on either the steering rack or steering column or directly to the steering rack. Sensors decide how much assistance to apply at any time.
When hydraulic fluid lubricates and seals the power-steering pump and hoses to prevent corrosion it can leak or gradually become less effective, making it harder to turn the steering wheel. Typically, a mechanic will check hydraulic fluid levels during an annual service.
If the electric motor fails, power-assisted steering will stop working, so the motor would need replacing. As with any electrical system, software problems can occur, necessitating an update.
Founded in Hiroshima, Japan in 1920, Mazda started out as a manufacturer of machine tools and didn’t move into the automotive business until 1931, when they produced their first “autorickshaw”. They’ve come a long way since then! The name has an interesting backstory too - the company says that it is derived from Ahura Mazda, the ancient Persian god of light, intelligence, and wisdom.
But beyond all that, Mazda is a maker of affordable, economical cars that are fun to drive and don’t break the bank. They also have a few sports cars on offer, for those who want something with a bit more pizzazz. That coupled with their saloons, SUVs, and hatchbacks means that everyone should be able to find something to fit in their garage.
