A British icon since the swinging 1960s, the Mini is a small economy car that was made by the British Motor Corporation from 1959 until 2000 and is now under the umbrella of BMW. The transverse engine front-wheel drive layout influenced a generation of car makers, and allowed 80 percent of the car’s floorpan to be used for passengers and luggage - that’s a lot of space!
In 1999 the Mini was voted the second most influential car of the 20th century, behind the Ford Model T, and ahead of the Citroën DS and Volkswagen Beetle. The performance versions, the Mini Cooper and Cooper "S," were successful as rally cars, winning the Monte Carlo Rally in 1964, 1965 and 1967. The British manufacturer now offers a selection of nine cars across a broad spectrum of vehicle choices, from the traditional three door hatchback to the more radical Coupe, Countryman and Paceman. It also developed a range of frugal engines, both petrol and diesel, to reduce running costs.
About the MINI Coupe
The Mini Coupe is a great little sports car with a lot of appealing qualities. With the same desirable image as the rest of the Mini range, it’s fun to drive and is reasonably priced when compared to its rivals. While it’s not as practical as some of the leaders in its class, the Mini Coupe is definitely worth a look if you’re hoping to find an affordable yet stylish sports car.
Of course, you’ll need to keep your eyes peeled for some issues. Drivers of the Mini Coupe have reported problems with the power steering, and transmission issues also pop up from time to time.
Problems with other MINI
As for the other Mini offerings, you may find yourself looking for a garage that can help you fix the thermostat failure on your Mini Cooper Clubman, or a fix for the broken timing chain in your Mini Cooper S, or even a helping hand for the finicky sunroof in the Mini Cooper Countryman. While these sound serious, Book My Garage is happy to help you find a garage in your area that can sort you out and get you back on the road quickly.
