"Very happy with the service"
Almost a great experience
"Work excellent. Price was more than told over the phone during diagnosis but this in my opinion is down to poor maths than anything malicious (I hope). Was quoted £503 over the phone prior to collecting the vehicle but was charged £570 when I arrived back at the garage. No effort made to appease me, I just had to pay."
The brakes on your car utilise fluid pressure.
When the brake pedal is depressed, it activates a plunger in the master cylinder,
which pressurises the brake fluid in the pipes and hoses causing the brake components to move.
Brake repairs are one of the most common reasons to visit a garage; all cars need their brake discs and pads replaced at regular intervals. Some of the warning signs for brake failure are squealing or grinding noises when depressing the brakes, or the brake feeling 'spongy' when the pedals is pressed. And of course if you need to brake increasingly hard to effectively slow or stop your car, then you could well be looking at brake replacement.
There are two main types of brake systems: disc brakes and drum brakes.
Disc brake systems are comprised of two pads per wheel, which clamp down on the brake disc when the brake pedal is depressed. When the fluid becomes pressurised, it sends a plunger in the calliper forward, forcing the brake pads on either side of the brake disc to squeeze it, which results in the slowing and stopping of the car.
Drum brakes operate in the same way as disc brakes, but with a different design. They both use friction to slow and stop the car, but drum brakes use shoes, instead of pads. The shoes are inside the steel brake drum itself, which spins with the wheel. When brake pressure is applied, a component called the wheel cylinder expands, forcing the brake shoes apart and towards the inside edge of the drum. Drum brakes are usually found on older vehicles, or just on the rear brake system.
Skoda has a long and storied history producing cars that are sold around the world! One of the five oldest companies producing cars today, with an unbroken history right alongside Daimler, Opel, Peugeot, and Tatra, the Skoda Works were initially established as an arms manufacturing plant in 1859. Since 1990 they’ve been part of the Volkswagen group, and this Czech brand is now known for producing a fine range of excellent value, high quality cars.
The current range comprises everything from the compact Fabia to the incredibly spacious Superb Estate with a mix of off-road and high-performance cars thrown in for good measure. The practical Yeti is an agile SUV with off-road capability, while the Octavia VRS offers sharp sports car speed.
On top of all that, customer satisfaction has consistently helped Skoda rank highly against more established competitors.
What do you need from your garage?
This might sound like a question with an obvious answer: you need a garage that can service or repair your car quickly and at a good price. But think again and you may realise there are other factors that affect your choice of garage in Ullapool. If you need to bring your son or daughter with you when you take your car in, are there toys in the waiting room? If you’re dropping the car off between school and work, can you pick up a cup of coffee while you’re there? Might the garage even collect your car and drop it back at your house after the work is done? You can find answers to all these questions on BookMyGarage.
