"happy with the service"
"I left the car at 0900 and went for a walk in the lovely town of Kirriemuir. By not long after 1000, Barrie called me to say the MOT was complete. The car was washed too. Thanks."
"The staff went out of their way to fit me in and I was pleasantly surprised to see a clean car at the end. Totally unexpected."
"A gold nugget of a place, a great find for me. I am extremely thrilled, so pleased about the workmanship and the kindness and helpfulness of the staff. Will definitely continue going there!"
"All work carried out first class. helpful owner and great communication. highly recommended."
"Great fast service, very helpful, friendly staff"
"Everything done to my satisfaction. Kept informed of progress & extra work to be done"
"Helpfulness of manager Sean"
Great service as always!
"Great service from start to finish, a call to confirm the booking, confirmation of opening times and a call to say when the job was completed"
"Perfect as always, fair prices and good work, I'll definitely be returning when I next need something done, thanks!"
"I had a full service and MOT. They collected my car for me first thing then carried out the MOT and rang me to tell me the outcome then carried out the service and rang again when that was completed. They dropped my car back off again at tea time and even rang me when they was on their way. The price was very reasonable. I didnt need to have any work done so i cant really comment on quality of work. But i was really happy with the service i received. The collection and drop off of my car was a life saver because i would have been stranded waiting at the garage if not. The only tiny thing is they didnt reset my service reminder on my car so it still keeps saying my service is over due, but thats minor. Overall very happy"
"Easy to book and good communications from Patcham Garage. Kept me in the loop about the status of the MOT. Ordered a new tyre for the one that needed replacing and fitted it. Let me know when I could collect. Very good service."
The brakes on your car utilise fluid pressure.
When the brake pedal is depressed, it activates a plunger in the master cylinder,
which pressurises the brake fluid in the pipes and hoses causing the brake components to move.
Brake repairs are one of the most common reasons to visit a garage; all cars need their brake discs and pads replaced at regular intervals. Some of the warning signs for brake failure are squealing or grinding noises when depressing the brakes, or the brake feeling 'spongy' when the pedals is pressed. And of course if you need to brake increasingly hard to effectively slow or stop your car, then you could well be looking at brake replacement.
There are two main types of brake systems: disc brakes and drum brakes.
Disc brake systems are comprised of two pads per wheel, which clamp down on the brake disc when the brake pedal is depressed. When the fluid becomes pressurised, it sends a plunger in the calliper forward, forcing the brake pads on either side of the brake disc to squeeze it, which results in the slowing and stopping of the car.
Drum brakes operate in the same way as disc brakes, but with a different design. They both use friction to slow and stop the car, but drum brakes use shoes, instead of pads. The shoes are inside the steel brake drum itself, which spins with the wheel. When brake pressure is applied, a component called the wheel cylinder expands, forcing the brake shoes apart and towards the inside edge of the drum. Drum brakes are usually found on older vehicles, or just on the rear brake system.
What do you need from your garage?
We all have different needs, and choosing a garage is no different. For some of us, it’s the quality of the overall service which matters most; not just the work that’s done under the bonnet, but the human interaction that comes with it. BookMyGarage allows you to compare Kirriemuir garages on everything from their waiting room refreshments or whether having your toddler in tow is going to be a problem, to how clearly the staff can explain the work your car requires.
