"Had a full service done. Staff at the garage were friendly and communicative. No problems at all and a smooth experience. They even offer to pick up/drop off the car, or to take you home after you drop the car off yourself. Price was amongst the most competitive available. Good value and very happy."
To the rescue
"After another provider (servicing stop) let me down with a last minute cancellation - book my garage and GC Auto were able to fit me in with 24 hours notice and an excellent price. Very pleased and will use again next year!"
Paid less than quoted
"Easy to book. Friendly staff. Car went in for MOT and full service. Expected to pay price as quoted and refunded me the price of air filter as it wasn’t required. What more can you ask for? Honest and reliable. Will return for sure"
"Excellent pick up and drop off service. Easy to arrange and staff were very helpful."
1st class garage
"I have nothing but positive comments to make about this garage and the professional service that they offer me as a customer, from initial booking to returning my vehicle the staff are helpful and I feel very confident in the workmanship they deliver. The work is done quickly, professionally and at every stage I am kept informed. Many thanks guys"
"Spot on from start to finish hassel free quality prices car even picked up and dropped off will definitely be recommending to others will be going back for any future work required finally found a quality garage"
"From start to finish GC Auto were brilliant. Called me as soon as I made the booking to confirm the pick up place and time. On the day there were no problems at all, they arrived as agreed and called me after they'd completed the work to arrange payment and drop off. There were no hidden costs like some other garages. The price they quoted was the price I paid. Which was brilliant especially as they even washed the car! Would definitely recommend and will definitely use again!"
Great customer service
"Really helpful staff and kept me updated throughout"
"After a service on my car I was made aware of some issues that needed to be fixed that should have cost a fortune but at GC the prices were very reasonable and pleasantly surprising. Whilst releases were done they always kept me in the loop and instead of just declaring that new parts had to be going in the my took the time to do extra checks to make sure they were needed and not just to make money off me which was refreshing because from experience that doesn’t always happen. Great value for money and the most helpful, honest and pleasant staff"
1st Class Service
"Great garage with friendly staff. Quoted price upfront so you know what you’re paying. Second year I’ve used them for my service and I’ll definitely be back. 100% recommend. Reliable and local is hard to find but GC Autos are spot on."
Always great service
"The only garage I use because I trust them. Theyre efficient, good value for money, and always give good service."
The brakes on your car utilise fluid pressure.
When the brake pedal is depressed, it activates a plunger in the master cylinder,
which pressurises the brake fluid in the pipes and hoses causing the brake components to move.
Brake repairs are one of the most common reasons to visit a garage; all cars need their brake discs and pads replaced at regular intervals. Some of the warning signs for brake failure are squealing or grinding noises when depressing the brakes, or the brake feeling 'spongy' when the pedals is pressed. And of course if you need to brake increasingly hard to effectively slow or stop your car, then you could well be looking at brake replacement.
There are two main types of brake systems: disc brakes and drum brakes.
Disc brake systems are comprised of two pads per wheel, which clamp down on the brake disc when the brake pedal is depressed. When the fluid becomes pressurised, it sends a plunger in the calliper forward, forcing the brake pads on either side of the brake disc to squeeze it, which results in the slowing and stopping of the car.
Drum brakes operate in the same way as disc brakes, but with a different design. They both use friction to slow and stop the car, but drum brakes use shoes, instead of pads. The shoes are inside the steel brake drum itself, which spins with the wheel. When brake pressure is applied, a component called the wheel cylinder expands, forcing the brake shoes apart and towards the inside edge of the drum. Drum brakes are usually found on older vehicles, or just on the rear brake system.
What do you need from your garage?
This might sound like a question with an obvious answer: you need a garage that can service or repair your car quickly and at a good price. But think again and you may realise there are other factors that affect your choice of garage in Gateshead. If you need to bring your son or daughter with you when you take your car in, are there toys in the waiting room? If you’re dropping the car off between school and work, can you pick up a cup of coffee while you’re there? Might the garage even collect your car and drop it back at your house after the work is done? You can find answers to all these questions on BookMyGarage.
