"Been here three times now for three different things and they’ve been great"
Helpful and friendly
"I thought the tires would need replacing and they could easily have done that and made more money but they looked at them and said they were still fine. Real sense of working to get the job done not make money."
"Good customer service. Above and beyond."
No problems - recommended
"Left car with them for a couple of hours and MoT done. Easy peasy."
"Staff were very friendly and professional. MOT and service were done quickly and was a good price. Will be going again next year!"
Good Value Service
"This was my first time getting my car serviced, so wasn't sure what to expect, but staff were really helpful on the phone and at the garage. Service was quick and and good quality, and good value for money compared to other garages I looked at in the area, will definitely use for any future work."
Very decent service
"Booked the car for a Full Service, but specified engine oil Mobil ESP 5-30W instead of the standard, was quoted the difference and even got to see the bottles of oil, to confirm they did order and use the oil of my choice. The main fella, James seemed knowledgeable and friendly. Overall a good experience. I will use again and review again."
"Great. First time i have had an MOT quick in quick out done and dusted and a great price cheers lads"
"Useful to have car collected from home"
Service and mot
"All work done to good standard kept informed when a problem with handbrake, happy with service and price was set upfront and told of price for extra work to pass mot before they carried it out"
"Always very helpful. Recommend for good value and good service."
"Booked online which was really easy and pricing was very clear. Unfortunately my car failed the MOT, but the work needed for it to pass was completed quickly and at a very fair price"
The brakes on your car utilise fluid pressure.
When the brake pedal is depressed, it activates a plunger in the master cylinder,
which pressurises the brake fluid in the pipes and hoses causing the brake components to move.
Brake repairs are one of the most common reasons to visit a garage; all cars need their brake discs and pads replaced at regular intervals. Some of the warning signs for brake failure are squealing or grinding noises when depressing the brakes, or the brake feeling 'spongy' when the pedals is pressed. And of course if you need to brake increasingly hard to effectively slow or stop your car, then you could well be looking at brake replacement.
There are two main types of brake systems: disc brakes and drum brakes.
Disc brake systems are comprised of two pads per wheel, which clamp down on the brake disc when the brake pedal is depressed. When the fluid becomes pressurised, it sends a plunger in the calliper forward, forcing the brake pads on either side of the brake disc to squeeze it, which results in the slowing and stopping of the car.
Drum brakes operate in the same way as disc brakes, but with a different design. They both use friction to slow and stop the car, but drum brakes use shoes, instead of pads. The shoes are inside the steel brake drum itself, which spins with the wheel. When brake pressure is applied, a component called the wheel cylinder expands, forcing the brake shoes apart and towards the inside edge of the drum. Drum brakes are usually found on older vehicles, or just on the rear brake system.
What do you need from your garage?
We all have different needs, and choosing a garage is no different. For some of us, it’s the quality of the overall service which matters most; not just the work that’s done under the bonnet, but the human interaction that comes with it. BookMyGarage allows you to compare Durham garages on everything from their waiting room refreshments or whether having your toddler in tow is going to be a problem, to how clearly the staff can explain the work your car requires.
