New research has revealed that most motorists in the UK are being overcharged for MOT and servicing requirements. The report from MotorEasy suggested that 4 out of 5 drivers are overpaying, as they are not benefiting from booking their Service and MOT together.

According to this research up to 85% of the checks performed on cars during a service are included in an annual MOT test, and this means that drivers often pay for most of the checks to be done twice on their vehicle, which could provide a saving of up to 40% on the overall cost.

MOT testing will not highlight all the potential problems with a vehicle. They do not cover important parts of a vehicle such as the engine, clutch and gearbox for example.

The founder of MotorEasy, Duncan McClure Fisher said that the motor industry is seeing the rise of the ‘Do It For Me’ generation. He said: “Time-poor consumers want to minimize the amount of time they spend at dealers and garages, without paying over the odds for it.

“One way to do this is to book your service and MOT together, as the garage will conduct all of the checks required to pass an MOT during the service.

“Not only will drivers be spared an extra visit to the garage, but they can also save money.”
